Travel Guide by Car
Coming from the United States, through Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan/Ontario border into Canada. From there it is only 190 miles, about 3.5 to 4 hours. There is one of three ways that you can travel: Hwy 17 east to Thessalon then north on Hwy 129 to Chapleau or
Hwy 17 west to Wawa, then Hwy 101 east to Chapleau; or
Hwy 17 west to Hwy 556 (Ranger Lake Road) to Hwy 129 north to Chapleau. (This route has about 50 miles of gravel, and is 1 hour shorter than the other two routes). All routes are very scenic and I recommend that you travel one on the way in and another on the way home.
Coming from southern Ontario/Buffalo Boarder there are two different routes, directions from Sudbury are: Please refer to Hwy maps for directions to Sudbury Ontario
Hwy 17 west to the town of Iron Bridge . Go right on Hwy 554 to Hwy 129, then north on Hwy 129 to Chapleau.
The second route: Hwy 17 west to Hwy 144 north to Sultan Road. You trun at the gas station, what is referred to as the water shed. Go 80 km or 50 miles and turn west off of Sultan Road to Hwy 667 follow to Hwy 129 then north on Hwy 129 to Chapleau. (This route has about 80 km 50 miles of gravel along the first part of the Sultan Road. It is about one hour faster than Route 1.
Follow Hwy 129 to Hwy. 101 east. Go 7 KM (3 miles) to Kanipahow Rd. and turn left. We are just past the 101 Gas Station.
For those of you coming from the east we are 7 KM from the 101 and 129 Junction. If you come to the 101 gas station you have gone too far. Turn right on Kanipahow Rd.
We are approximately 4 km (2 miles) in. Watch for Hwy signs. Please keep in mind that we are east of the Town Of Chapleau off of Hwy 101.
