Travel Guide by Car
Coming
from the United States, through Sault
Ste. Marie, Michigan/Ontario border into Canada. From there it is only 190 miles, about four hours . There is one of three ways that you can
travel: Hwy 17 east to Thessalon then north on Hwy 129 to Chapleau; Hwy 17 west to Wawa, then Hwy 101 east to
Chapleau; or Hwy 17 west to Hwy 556
(Ranger Lake Road) to Hwy 129 north to Chapleau. (This route has about 50 miles
of gravel, and is a little shorter than the other two routes). All routes are very scenic and I recommend
that you travel one on the way in and another on the way home.
Coming from southern Ontario there are two different routes, directions from Sudbury
are: Hwy 17 west to the town of
Thessalon, then north on Hwy 129 to Chapleau. The second route: Hwy 17 west to Hwy 144 north to Sultan Road. Turn west on Sultan Road to Hwy 667 then
north on Hwy 129 to Chapleau. (This
route has about 50 miles of gravel along the first part of the Sultan
Road. It is about one hour faster than
Route 1.
